Uttar Pradesh transport authority seizes 122 aged vehicles, including IAS officer's family scooter

The Bagpat transport department has intensified its compliance drive to remove age-expired vehicles from roads, impounding 122 automobiles that have surpassed their operational limits. The vehicles have been directed to authorized scrapping centres under an enforcement campaign led by ARTO Vipin Kumar.

Notably, the operation resulted in the seizure of a 30-year-old scooter registered to the father of IAS officer Sana Akhtar, as well as a 15-year-old motorcycle belonging to an Additional District Officer. The action underscores the department's commitment to implementing emission and safety regulations uniformly across all sections of society.

The National Capital Region operates strict vehicle age restrictions under its environmental protection framework. The regulations prohibit diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles exceeding 15 years from plying on regional roads. These limits are designed to reduce vehicular emissions and improve air quality in the densely populated NCR zone.

The enforcement initiative reflects growing efforts by regional authorities to enforce anti-pollution measures through systematic removal of older vehicles. Officials have signalled that such operations will continue to ensure compliance with established emission standards and vehicle age policies.
