Uttarakhand hit by pair of earthquakes; 4.2 magnitude tremor strikes Uttarkashi

Two earthquakes jolted Uttarakhand on Tuesday, continuing a pattern of seismic activity in the northern state. The first tremor, measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale, was recorded in Bageshwar district earlier in the day. A stronger quake of 4.2 magnitude followed at 8:08 pm in Uttarkashi district.

The tremors were felt across the affected districts but no immediate reports of damage or casualties were reported. The earthquakes add to growing concern about seismic activity in the region, which straddles the tectonically sensitive Himalayan zone.

This latest seismic event follows a more significant earthquake on October 6, when Chamoli district was struck by a 4.9 magnitude quake. Those tremors were felt across a wider area, including the national capital and nearby regions such as Dehradun and Delhi-NCR.

Uttarakhand lies in a seismically active zone, making it vulnerable to periodic earthquakes. Authorities have been monitoring the situation, though the recent tremors have remained relatively moderate in intensity.
