Uttarakhand Police Bust Illegal SIM Box Gateway Operation

Law enforcement authorities in Uttarakhand have uncovered an illegal telecommunications gateway scheme involving the use of SIM boxes, a device used to bypass legitimate telecom infrastructure. The Special Task Force conducted the operation that led to the discovery of the unlicensed network.

During the raid, police recovered 114 SIM cards and 77 antennas that were part of the gateway infrastructure. The equipment was being used to facilitate communications outside regulated telecom channels, authorities said. One individual has been taken into custody pending investigation.

SIM boxes are sophisticated devices that can route telecommunications traffic illegally by simulating legitimate cellular network operations. They are commonly used for voice arbitrage, spam operations, and other telecom fraud schemes. The technology exploits vulnerabilities in global telecom networks to bypass authentication mechanisms.

The confiscation marks another enforcement action against illegal telecom operations in India. Authorities have escalated crackdowns on unlicensed gateways as part of broader efforts to protect the integrity of the country's telecommunications infrastructure and prevent misuse for criminal activities.
