Uttarakhand rescues 1,500 pilgrims trapped on Kedarnath trail

Severe weather conditions across Uttarakhand triggered a major rescue operation on Saturday as approximately 1,500 pilgrims found themselves stranded on the Kedarnath pilgrimage route. Heavy rainfall combined with unexpected snowfall in the high-altitude region created treacherous conditions that forced authorities to suspend normal passage along the sacred trek.

Rescue teams successfully evacuated the trapped devotees using coordinated ground and air operations. The challenging terrain and unpredictable weather patterns required careful planning to ensure the safety of all those affected during the evacuation process.

A more critical situation unfolded on the Kalindi track, where more than 100 trekkers became trapped in the difficult mountainous conditions. State authorities mobilised eight helicopters to mount an emergency rescue operation in the area, recognising the heightened risks posed by the deteriorating weather.

The incidents underscore the hazards pilgrims and trekkers face during monsoon and winter seasons in the higher Himalayan regions. Uttarakhand authorities continue to monitor weather conditions closely and have urged visitors to exercise caution before planning treks and pilgrimages to high-altitude destinations.
