Van driver killed, three injured in Benguet ravine plunge
A 62-year-old driver died and three passengers sustained injuries after a van careened off a mountain road and plunged into a deep ravine in Benguet province. The accident occurred in the farming municipality of Atok on Wednesday morning.

The vehicle went over the edge at Kilometer 38 in Barangay Abiang at approximately 11:10 a.m., dropping roughly 10 meters into the ravine below. Emergency responders did not arrive at the scene until around 1:40 p.m., more than two hours after the incident was reported to authorities.
Police officers dispatched to the crash site initiated a preliminary investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Initial findings from the investigation were being documented as authorities worked to establish the sequence of events that led to the vehicle leaving the roadway.
The injured passengers were transported for medical treatment following the retrieval of the vehicle from the ravine. The identity of the deceased driver and the condition of the three injured individuals were among details being confirmed by local authorities in Atok.
The accident adds to the growing list of vehicular incidents recorded in the mountainous Cordillera region, where steep terrain and winding roads present ongoing safety hazards for motorists and passengers.
