Vande Mataram precedes national anthem at India T20I in historic first
India's cricket board has played the complete six-stanza rendition of Vande Mataram before the national anthem at a T20 International match for the first time. The unprecedented sequence at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi followed a directive from the Union Home Ministry.

All six stanzas of Vande Mataram, totalling three minutes and 10 seconds, were performed ahead of the national anthem at the venue on Tuesday, according to the Home Ministry's new protocol. The national anthem itself lasted 52 seconds, bringing the combined duration to just over four minutes.
The implementation marks a significant shift in pre-match ceremonial procedures at India's premier cricket venues. The historic rendition saw both compositions performed in their entirety, with the patriotic song preceding the Jana Gana Mana as per official direction.
Arun Jaitley Stadium, one of India's most prominent sports facilities, hosted the ceremonial innovation during the T20 International fixture. The extended pre-match protocol underscores the government's emphasis on nationalist symbolism during major sporting events.
