Varanasi authorities demolish 10 buildings for road widening project

Varanasi civic authorities completed a major demolition operation on Wednesday, bringing down 10 deteriorated buildings in the densely populated area adjacent to Kachehri Chowk. The action was undertaken as part of an ongoing road-widening initiative aimed at improving traffic flow in the congested locality.

Bulldozers and excavation equipment were deployed to systematically raze the structures, which had been identified as unsafe for habitation. Local officials stated that the properties targeted were in a state of disrepair and posed safety hazards to residents in the surrounding Muslim-majority neighborhood.

The road expansion project is expected to ease congestion in one of Varanasi's busier commercial and residential areas. Authorities have indicated that the widening work will facilitate better vehicular movement and improve overall urban infrastructure in the region.

The operation drew attention from local residents, though municipal authorities indicated that necessary procedures had been followed prior to commencement of the demolition drive. Officials said the project forms part of broader infrastructure development efforts in the historic city.
