Varanasi Municipal Corporation upgrades drainage ahead of Saras Aajeevika Mela

The Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) has undertaken special measures to bolster drainage systems at Punnami Ghat in preparation for the large-scale artisan fair. The initiative aims to maintain cleanliness standards as the venue prepares to accommodate a significant influx of vendors and traders from across the country.

The Municipal Commissioner cited the anticipated volume of participants as the primary driver behind the infrastructure upgrades. With hundreds of stalls expected to line the ghat during the Saras Aajeevika Mela, municipal authorities determined that enhanced drainage capacity would be essential to manage waste and maintain sanitary conditions throughout the event.

The Saras Aajeevika Mela, scheduled to commence on October 13, is designed to provide a platform for artisans and small-scale producers to showcase and sell their products. The fair typically attracts vendors dealing in handicrafts, textiles, and other traditional goods, drawing both buyers and visitors to the historic riverside location.

Municipal officials have indicated that the drainage improvements represent part of a broader effort to ensure the event proceeds smoothly while minimizing environmental impact on the ghat area. The preparatory work reflects the corporation's commitment to balancing the commercial and cultural significance of such large gatherings with public health and sanitation imperatives.
