The Kashi ropeway in Varanasi is on track for launch next month following the near-completion of construction work on the ambitious urban transport project. According to project officials, 96 per cent of the work has been finished, paving the way for operational trials and final regulatory approvals.
Once operational, the ropeway will significantly reduce travel time between two major city landmarks. The 3.85-kilometre stretch connecting Cantonment station to Godaulia will be traversed in just 16 minutes, offering commuters and visitors a faster alternative to ground-based transport during peak hours.
Fares for the cable car service have been set at 50 rupees per journey, making it an affordable public transport option. The project is expected to ease congestion in Varanasi's busy commercial zones and provide better connectivity for devotees and tourists visiting the city's religious sites.
The Kashi ropeway forms part of Varanasi's broader infrastructure development agenda aimed at modernising transport networks and enhancing the city's accessibility. December operations would mark a significant milestone for the municipality's efforts to introduce contemporary urban mobility solutions.
