Vayona Energy launches locally-built 5 MW wind turbine for Indian market

Vayona Energy has unveiled its next-generation 5 megawatt wind turbine platform at a launch event in Chennai, positioning the technology as a key offering for India's growing onshore wind sector. The Vayona 5.0/193 model represents a collaboration between the Indian firm and Germany's Aerovide, combining international engineering expertise with local market knowledge.

The turbine's 193-metre rotor has been specifically engineered to maximise performance across India's diverse wind zones, accounting for the country's varying wind speeds and meteorological patterns. By tailoring the platform to local conditions, the manufacturer aims to improve capacity utilisation and overall project economics for wind farm developers operating across the subcontinent.

Vayona Energy's decision to establish local manufacturing and service capabilities underscores the company's commitment to the Indian market and aligns with government initiatives to develop domestic renewable energy supply chains. The localised approach is expected to reduce lead times, lower costs, and create technical employment opportunities in India's growing wind energy sector.

The launch comes as India continues its renewable energy expansion, with wind power representing a critical component of the nation's target to reach 500 gigawatts of clean energy capacity by 2030. Modern, efficient turbines like the 5.0/193 are considered essential to achieving these ambitious renewable energy goals at competitive prices.
