Vedanta Limited has greenlit the issuance of up to 3.5 lakh non-convertible debentures (NCDs) through private placement, with an aggregate value of Rs 3,500 crore. Each debenture carries a face value of Rs 1 lakh and will be unsecured, rated and listed, according to the company's board approval.

The private placement structure allows the diversified metals and mining company to raise capital from select institutional investors without a public offering. NCDs serve as a debt instrument for companies seeking to mobilise funds for operations, expansion and other corporate requirements.

Vedanta operates across mining, metals production and energy sectors with significant operations in India and internationally. The company has previously utilized capital market instruments including debenture issuances to strengthen its balance sheet and fund strategic initiatives.

The fundraising comes as Indian corporates continue to tap debt capital markets amid evolving interest rate environments. Listed NCDs provide investors with regular fixed or floating interest income along with principal repayment at maturity, offering an alternative to equity investments.
