A vegetable vendor in Rajkot has been apprehended by the Special Operations Group (SOG) for manufacturing counterfeit Indian currency notes from his home using techniques learned through online platforms. The suspect allegedly utilized Instagram and Telegram to acquire training in currency counterfeiting and subsequently set up an unauthorized printing operation.
During a search of the accused's residence, police recovered counterfeit notes in denominations of Rs. 100 to Rs. 500, along with the printing equipment used in the illegal operation. The investigation revealed that the individual had been actively producing and circulating fake currency notes in the local market.
The arrest represents an escalating trend of criminal operations leveraging social media and messaging applications to disseminate illegal techniques and knowledge. Authorities have registered a case against the accused under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Counterfeiting of Indian Currency Act.
