A man was killed when a vehicle collided with a Krishna water pipeline near Nagole Metro Station in Hyderabad on Tuesday, triggering a dramatic cascade of water that flooded surrounding roads. The impact ruptured the pipeline with such force that water gushed over 20 feet into the air, inundating the area around the transit hub and disrupting vehicular traffic.
Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) officials rushed to the site following the accident. The repair team identified damage to a critical air valve in the pipeline system, which was promptly replaced to restore structural integrity to the water distribution network.
Working through the emergency, HMWSSB personnel completed repairs within approximately five hours, allowing drinking water supply to resume across the affected zones. Officials urged residents to use water judiciously as the system normalised following the incident.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of critical urban infrastructure to traffic accidents and the rapid response capabilities required of municipal water authorities serving major metropolitan areas.
