A Toyota Fortuner veered out of control and smashed through the safety railing of Captain Bridge in Purnea district late on October 29, plunging into the Saura River below, police said Wednesday.
Rescue operations involving local divers and crane equipment recovered the vehicle from the riverbed, but the driver trapped inside could not be saved. The deceased has been identified as Babloo Vishwas, a resident of Kochai village in Dagarua block.
Vishwas was the cousin of Santosh Kushwaha, a former Member of Parliament representing Purnea. Police investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing, though initial reports suggest the vehicle was traveling at high speed when it lost control on the bridge.
The incident marks another fatal road accident in the region, raising fresh concerns about vehicle safety and bridge infrastructure maintenance in Bihar's highways.
