Vellore pedestrian underpass on Chennai-Bengaluru highway nears completion

The upcoming pedestrian underpass on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway in Vellore will significantly improve connectivity between the town's key areas, according to officials with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The structure is expected to be operational by October, reducing travel inconvenience for commuters and pedestrians who currently navigate the area.

Currently, residents and motorists seeking to travel between Old Town and Katpadi across the Palar River must take a detour of at least one kilometre. The new underpass will provide a direct crossing point, streamlining traffic flow and reducing journey times for daily commuters in the region.

The infrastructure project is part of broader efforts to enhance connectivity along the Chennai-Bengaluru corridor, a major economic and transport artery serving both states. Once completed, the underpass is expected to ease congestion and improve pedestrian safety at this critical junction.
