MANILA — Mary Jane Veloso and her family have received P50,000 in financial support and livelihood assistance from the government, Malacañang announced on Monday. The aid package was delivered following the president's decision to grant Veloso an absolute pardon, according to Palace press officer Claire Castro.
Personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development field office coordinated the distribution of the assistance, representing the government's commitment to supporting Veloso's reintegration into society. The livelihood component of the package is designed to help establish economic stability for the family moving forward.
Veloso's case gained international attention after she was convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to death in Indonesia. Her pardon by President Marcos Jr. marked a significant development in a case that had drawn widespread public concern and diplomatic engagement over several years.
