Vessels struck by missiles in Hormuz Strait, UK agency reports
Two ships have been hit by missile strikes while transiting the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations authority. The incident marks an escalation in regional tensions following military operations that began in late February.

The two vessels were targeted while navigating the narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, one of the world's most critical shipping lanes through which roughly one-third of global maritime oil trade flows. The UK Maritime Trade Operations confirmed the strikes but did not immediately disclose details about damage or casualties.
The attacks underscore mounting risks to commercial shipping in the region since the onset of hostilities triggered by coordinated US and Israeli military strikes against Iranian targets in late February. Iran has repeatedly asserted control over the strategically important strait and has targeted multiple commercial vessels transiting the corridor, citing violations of its sovereignty and regional security concerns.
The Strait of Hormuz has emerged as a flashpoint for regional conflict, with repeated incidents affecting international commerce. Insurance premiums for vessels operating in the area have surged amid the heightened security risks and unpredictability of transit conditions.
Shipping companies and maritime authorities have urged vessels to exercise extreme caution when approaching the strait. The international community has expressed concern about the potential disruption to global energy supplies and trade flows should tensions escalate further in the region.
