Payal Mehta, a respected voice in Indian broadcast journalism, passed away in the early hours of Sunday at a Mumbai hospital. The 46-year-old journalist fell ill during a visit to the city and was admitted to hospital around 2 am, where she succumbed shortly after arrival, according to colleagues.

Mehta's death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the political spectrum. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge were among the prominent figures who expressed their condolences. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also mourned her passing.
