Veterinary examination rules out gunshot wounds on Galgamuwa elephant

A team of veterinary surgeons completed a thorough examination of Kawanthissa on Wednesday and confirmed that no visible gunshot wounds are present on the elephant's body, according to findings released by the examining team.
The examination was conducted as authorities sought to determine the cause and extent of injuries observed on the animal, which has been roaming in the Galgamuwa Divisional Secretariat area in recent days.
While the veterinary assessment ruled out gunshot wounds, the Galgamuwa Wildlife Zone Office noted that the elephant does have an injury to its upper body, the nature and extent of which remain under investigation.
The findings are expected to assist wildlife authorities in determining appropriate care and management protocols for the animal as it continues to be monitored in the region.
