Videotex secures Google TV certification, targets ₹800 crore revenue

Videotex, which specializes in manufacturing televisions and display products, has secured ODM certification to build and supply Google TV-powered smart televisions, a development expected to substantially expand its revenue to ₹800 crore within the next two to three years, according to Director Arjun Bajaj.

The certification represents a significant milestone for the company, which currently operates with an annual production capacity of 2.2 million television units. The approval opens opportunities for Indian and regional television manufacturers to procure Google TV-enabled smart sets from a domestic producer, reducing their reliance on Chinese original design manufacturers and suppliers.

Bajaj described the Google TV ODM certification as a landmark achievement, emphasizing its implications for the country's electronics manufacturing ecosystem. The approval would enable local television brands to access Google TV technology through an Indian manufacturing partner rather than depending on overseas suppliers, he said.

The company is simultaneously expanding beyond televisions into large appliances, with initial production of its first appliance category anticipated to commence by year-end, though Bajaj declined to specify which category the company plans to pursue. The diversification strategy underscores Videotex's broader ambitions to establish India as a competitive sourcing and manufacturing destination for consumer electronics.
