Vietnam accelerates banking licensing at international financial centre

The State Bank of Vietnam has been tasked with coordinating with the international financial centre's executive body to develop comprehensive guidance on applications, procedures and licensing conditions for prospective member banks.

The push to streamline the licensing framework reflects Vietnam's broader efforts to establish its financial hubs as competitive destinations on the global stage. Ho Chi Minh City's financial centre recently announced its inaugural cohort of 10 official members, signalling progress in building a critical mass of financial institutions.

The Da Nang financial centre continues to strengthen its position within the global financial system, leveraging Vietnam's growth prospects and regional connectivity to attract international investment and expertise.

By establishing clear pathways for banking membership, Vietnam aims to create an enabling environment that encourages both domestic and foreign financial institutions to participate in the centres' ecosystems, enhancing Vietnam's role as a regional financial hub.
