General Phan Van Giang, Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, welcomed General Tea Seiha, Cambodia's defence minister, during an official state visit to the capital on October 13. The ceremonial reception marked a significant diplomatic engagement between the two countries' military leadership.
The talks resulted in the signing of a defence cooperation plan extending through 2027, establishing a formal framework for military-to-military relations. The agreement is expected to guide bilateral defence initiatives, training exchanges, and strategic coordination over the coming years.
The visit reflects Vietnam and Cambodia's commitment to strengthening regional stability and security cooperation within Southeast Asia. Defence partnerships between neighbouring nations have become increasingly important as countries in the region seek to deepen institutional ties and address shared security challenges.
Vietnam and Cambodia have maintained close diplomatic and defence relations since normalization of ties in the 1990s. The new cooperation framework represents a continuation of efforts to institutionalize defence engagement through structured, long-term commitments.
