Vietnam and the Czech Republic are moving to deepen institutional cooperation between their respective legislative chambers, according to statements from Vietnamese officials. Ha Thi Nga, a member of the Party Central Committee and Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), has advocated for enhanced collaboration between the VFF and corresponding organizations under the Czech Chamber of Deputies.
The proposed cooperation encompasses multiple areas of parliamentary work, including the exchange of legislative practices, procedures for handling constituent petitions, and mechanisms for parliamentary oversight of government activities. Nga's remarks underscore the Vietnamese side's commitment to learning from Czech parliamentary experience while potentially sharing domestic governance approaches.
The initiative aligns with a broader strategy to strengthen Vietnam-Czech bilateral relations beyond traditional state-to-state channels. By facilitating direct engagement between legislative bodies and civic organizations, both countries aim to build sustained people-to-people connections that complement diplomatic efforts.
The Czech Republic, a European Union and NATO member, has maintained active engagement with Vietnam across multiple sectors in recent years. Enhanced parliamentary cooperation could facilitate discussions on regional security, economic cooperation, and shared governance challenges, while also fostering cultural understanding between the two nations' populations.
Vietnamese officials view expanded institutional exchanges as a mechanism to advance mutual development goals and deepen long-term strategic partnership with Prague.
