Vietnam's assumption of the APEC presidency marks a significant milestone for the nation's engagement in regional economic governance. The official handover will occur during the closing ceremony of the 33rd APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting, with Minister Ngo Van Tuan and his delegation participating in the formal transition process.
Ahead of the official handover, Vietnamese financial officials are scheduled to attend additional sessions and conduct bilateral meetings with counterparts from other APEC member economies. These interactions are expected to facilitate knowledge-sharing and strengthen relationships that will prove essential during Vietnam's hosting year.
As it prepares to lead APEC, Vietnam has identified financial priorities for the 2027 presidency and is drawing insights from previous host nations, including China, to refine its approach. The transition period offers an opportunity for Vietnamese officials to coordinate with outgoing leadership and establish the framework for their agenda.
Among the thematic areas Vietnam is considering for its APEC tenure is the governance of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. Regional dialogue on responsible AI development has been identified as a priority, reflecting broader concerns across Asia-Pacific economies about harnessing technological innovation while maintaining ethical standards and trustworthiness in digital systems.
