Vietnam's Ministry of Finance will assume the chair of the APEC Finance Ministers' Process during a formal handover ceremony scheduled for October 21. Finance Minister Ngo Van Tuan and his delegation are expected to participate in additional sessions and conduct bilateral meetings with counterparts before officially taking the helm of the important policy coordination mechanism.
The leadership transition underscores Vietnam's central role in shaping the regional economic agenda as it prepares to host APEC's flagship annual summit in 2027. As chair of the Finance Ministers' Process, Vietnam will guide discussions on key financial and economic priorities affecting the 21-member Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.
Vietnam has already begun outlining its financial priorities for the APEC Year 2027, drawing on experiences and best practices from previous host economies, particularly China. The country is positioning itself to advance cooperation on critical issues including financial stability, digital economy frameworks, and sustainable development financing among member economies.
As part of its broader preparation for the 2027 summit, Vietnam is also promoting emerging policy areas within APEC, including responsible and trustworthy artificial intelligence governance. The emphasis on AI governance reflects growing regional concerns about managing technological advancement while ensuring ethical standards and international cooperation on digital regulatory frameworks.
