Vietnam welcomed 17.7 million international visitors during the January-September period, underlining the country's growing prominence in Asia's travel market. September alone attracted 1.77 million foreign tourists, marking a significant 16.1 percent surge compared to the same month in 2023.
The upward trajectory in visitor numbers aligns with Vietnam's broader strategy to elevate its position in the global tourism landscape. The nation recently climbed seven positions to rank 52nd in the World Economic Forum's Travel and Tourism Development Index, reflecting improvements in tourism infrastructure and competitive positioning.
Vietnamese authorities are intensifying promotional efforts across international markets to sustain this momentum. These initiatives are part of a long-term vision to strengthen tourism's economic contribution, with the sector targeted to represent 12 percent of gross domestic product by 2030.
The tourism rebound demonstrates Vietnam's recovery in attracting overseas visitors following pandemic-related disruptions. Strengthened air connectivity, enhanced hospitality offerings, and cultural attractions continue to drive foreign interest in destinations across the country.
