The approval comes as Vietnam's atomic energy institute celebrates 50 years of operations, with senior officials emphasizing the sector's importance for the nation's sustainable development. Currently, the atomic energy workforce remains severely constrained, with far fewer trained professionals than required to support planned nuclear projects and research initiatives.
Government officials have stressed that developing adequate human resources is essential to realizing Vietnam's atomic energy ambitions. The new strategy targets recruitment, training, and skill development across multiple disciplines needed for nuclear facility operations, research, and regulatory oversight.
The plan reflects Vietnam's broader pivot toward nuclear energy as a component of its energy diversification and climate commitments. With tens of thousands of additional workers needed across various specializations, implementation will require coordination between educational institutions, industry, and government agencies to establish training pipelines and career pathways in the sector.
