Banks across Vietnam are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence to enhance data analysis, deliver tailored services to customers, and strengthen risk management systems. The technology is also being deployed to detect fraudulent transactions more effectively, addressing long-standing security concerns in the financial sector.
Vietcombank, one of the country's largest financial institutions, exemplified this trend in August by launching its One Data Platform (ODP) project. The initiative is designed to support advanced analytics capabilities and establish the technological foundations needed for broader artificial intelligence and machine learning applications within the bank's operations.
As AI adoption accelerates across Vietnam's banking sector, financial regulators have signalled their intention to implement tighter supervision mechanisms. Officials recognize that while AI technologies offer significant competitive advantages and operational efficiencies, their deployment in banking requires robust oversight to protect financial stability and consumer interests.
The expansion of AI in banking is being positioned as part of broader efforts to promote the digital economy during the 2026-2030 period. Industry observers note that banks successfully leveraging data as a competitive advantage through artificial intelligence will likely emerge as market leaders, though regulatory clarity remains essential to ensure responsible deployment across the sector.
