Vietnam's Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan received the Artemis Accords from US Ambassador to Vietnam Jennifer Wicks on October 28, 2026, at a ceremony held in Quang Ninh province as part of Vietnam International Digital Week 2026. The accession underscores Vietnam's commitment to international cooperation in the peaceful use of outer space.

First launched by the United States and seven partner nations in 2020, the Artemis Accords establish shared principles and guidelines for countries engaged in space exploration activities. The framework aims to foster collaboration among signatory nations while ensuring that space exploration remains focused on civilian and scientific purposes rather than military applications.

Vietnam's joining the accords reflects the country's growing emphasis on science, technology, and digital transformation as strategic priorities for national development. The move aligns with broader efforts to strengthen bilateral ties with the United States and participate in international frameworks addressing emerging technological domains.

The Artemis Accords have gradually expanded membership since their inception, with an increasing number of nations recognizing the importance of coordinated space governance. Vietnam's participation positions the country alongside other nations committed to establishing common standards and peaceful protocols for future space activities.
