Vietnam supplied 96,834 students to South Korean universities and colleges, accounting for 31.5% of the total foreign student population, according to latest enrollment data. China, previously the leading source, fell to second place with 78,890 students representing 25.7% of international enrollments. Uzbekistan, Nepal, and Mongolia rounded out the top five source countries.
The significant educational flow reflects the strengthening bilateral relationship between Vietnam and South Korea across multiple sectors. Educational exchanges have become a key pillar of people-to-people connections, with thousands of Vietnamese students pursuing degrees in engineering, business, information technology, and other fields at South Korean institutions.
The prominence of Vietnamese students in South Korean higher education comes amid growing economic cooperation and investment between the two countries. South Korean firms maintain substantial operations across Vietnam, creating demand for skilled workers with familiarity in both cultures and education systems.
Cultural and historical ties between Vietnam and South Korea, stretching back centuries, have provided a foundation for modern diplomatic and educational partnerships. The rise in student numbers demonstrates how contemporary cooperation builds upon these deep-rooted connections, fostering mutual understanding among younger generations from both nations.
