Vietnam, Belgium pledge to strengthen bilateral ties and economic cooperation

Vietnamese General Secretary and President To Lam has underscored Vietnam's determination to strengthen cooperation with Belgium during meetings with Vietnamese diplomatic staff and community members across Europe. The commitment comes on the heels of an official state visit by Belgium's King and Queen to Vietnam in April 2025, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations.

Lam highlighted the positive trajectory of Vietnam-Belgium ties since the establishment of formal diplomatic relations more than five decades ago. He characterized Belgium as an important European partner and emphasized Hanoi's interest in expanding the relationship across multiple sectors.

The overture takes place as To Lam conducts an official tour of the European Union and Belgium, underscoring Vietnam's strategic focus on strengthening European partnerships. Officials indicated that both nations are seeking to leverage untapped potential in trade and investment, with discussions expected to cover economic collaboration and sectoral cooperation.

The engagement reflects broader Vietnamese efforts to diversify international partnerships and strengthen ties with developed economies in Europe, at a time when regional dynamics in Asia continue to evolve. Belgium, as a gateway to the EU and home to key European institutions, remains a strategic focus for Vietnamese diplomatic and economic initiatives.
