Vietnam bolsters parliamentary ties at international assembly in Tanzania

Nguyen Hong Dien engaged in separate discussions with parliamentary and government leaders from Tanzania, Malaysia, Australia, Russia and Algeria on October 5, leveraging the Inter-Parliamentary Union gathering to strengthen Vietnam's legislative relationships across multiple continents.

The meetings underscored Vietnam's commitment to expanding parliamentary cooperation beyond traditional partnerships. Among the discussions, Vietnam and South Africa identified opportunities to elevate bilateral parliamentary engagement while exploring avenues to strengthen Asia-Africa connectivity. Parallel to these efforts, Hanoi and Mexico agreed to deepen substantive cooperation in legislative affairs, signaling mutual interest in broadening exchanges on policy matters of mutual concern.

Vietnam also advanced parliamentary cooperation frameworks with Switzerland, reflecting Hanoi's strategy to maintain balanced diplomatic engagement across diverse regional and global partners. The bilateral meetings during IPU-153 demonstrated how the annual assembly serves as a critical platform for countries to pursue legislative diplomacy and strengthen institutional ties outside formal state-to-state channels.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union, which brings together legislators from member nations worldwide, provides venues for direct engagement between parliamentary delegations and enables consensus-building on regional and global issues through informal diplomacy mechanisms.
