Vietnam, Cambodia forge defence cooperation roadmap through 2027

Vietnam and Cambodia have inked a defence cooperation plan through 2027 as part of broader efforts to deepen ties between the two Southeast Asian neighbours. The agreement calls for implementing joint cooperation programmes across multiple defence and military sectors, with particular emphasis on strengthening political and ideological coordination to reinforce mutual trust.

Under the plan, the defence ministries of both countries are tasked with accelerating cooperation among their respective military services while also expanding defence technology and arms partnerships. Officials have underscored the importance of practical collaboration to achieve these objectives and ensure effective implementation of agreed initiatives.

Border management and protection feature prominently in the bilateral defence framework. Both nations have committed to enhancing coordination mechanisms along their shared frontier to foster what officials describe as a border characterised by peace, cooperation and mutual development.

The defence cooperation agreement reflects Vietnam and Cambodia's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across multiple domains. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung recently concluded an official visit to Cambodia, during which the countries reaffirmed their commitment to comprehensive partnership and regional cooperation. The defence accord is expected to contribute to stability and prosperity throughout Southeast Asia.
