Vietnam's senior leadership has urged the defence ministries of both countries to establish more substantive cooperation mechanisms, focusing on intelligence exchange and mutual support for maintaining political stability and national security in the region.
The initiative seeks to improve coordination on border management and protection, two critical areas for Southeast Asian stability. Officials have emphasized the need to accelerate border demarcation and marker placement activities, which remain ongoing priorities for both nations.
Vietnamese authorities have also called for the legal formalization of defence achievements already accomplished between Hanoi and Phnom Penh, creating a more durable framework for future cooperation. This approach reflects broader efforts to consolidate gains made through existing defence partnerships.
The renewed focus on Vietnam-Cambodia defence ties comes as the two countries continue joint exercises and cooperative initiatives with Laos, strengthening a trilateral security framework in mainland Southeast Asia. Trade and economic cooperation remain parallel tracks, with both nations actively promoting bilateral commercial engagement through joint expos and investment initiatives.
