The Ministry of Industry and Trade has unveiled its 2026–2030 support agenda with an explicit focus on elevating cross-border e-commerce into a cornerstone of Vietnam's export strategy. Rather than treating online sales as a supplementary channel, policymakers are positioning digital commerce as a primary vehicle for driving long-term economic value and business resilience.
The initiative addresses a critical gap between current opportunity and realized potential in Vietnam's e-commerce sector. While online platforms have attracted growing numbers of exporters and consumers, the government recognizes that sustainable growth requires deeper infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and capability-building across the supply chain.
Vietnam's push into cross-border e-commerce also aligns with regional trends toward digital commerce integration. Enhanced connectivity with neighboring markets, particularly India and other Southeast Asian economies, is creating expanded opportunities for Vietnamese merchants to reach new customer bases and diversify revenue streams.
Young entrepreneurs are expected to emerge as key beneficiaries of the expanded e-commerce ecosystem. The strategy's emphasis on capability development and market access may unlock fresh pathways for digital-native startups and small-to-medium enterprises seeking to establish international footholds without traditional export infrastructure barriers.
