Vietnam charts course for APEC finance agenda as 2027 chair

Vietnam's assumption of the APEC Finance Ministers' Process chair marks a significant moment for the regional economic grouping as it prepares for the bloc's 2027 leadership year. The country has identified four strategic priorities designed to strengthen the financial ecosystem across member economies and promote sustainable economic development.

The Vietnamese agenda centers on bolstering capital markets to unlock private investment for innovative businesses and startups across the region. A second pillar emphasizes leveraging data-driven financial solutions to expand access to capital for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, which form the backbone of most Asia-Pacific economies.

Diversifying financial resources for development represents the third priority, reflecting recognition of the need for varied funding mechanisms to support infrastructure and economic projects. The fourth focus area targets human capital development, with initiatives to build capacity among young professionals entering the financial sector.

The priorities reflect Vietnam's commitment to addressing persistent development challenges while positioning the region's financial institutions to support emerging opportunities in innovation and entrepreneurship. As APEC Finance Ministers' Process chair, Vietnam will work to coordinate policy discussions and drive implementation of initiatives that benefit all member economies during the 2027 APEC year.
