Vietnam, China to deepen legislative ties and people-to-people exchanges

Vietnam and China are moving to intensify legislative exchanges and people-to-people contacts as part of efforts to reinforce their bilateral partnership. National Assembly President Tran Thi Man has called for maintaining exchanges at all levels between the two countries' parliaments and governments, according to sources familiar with recent high-level discussions.

The proposed measures form part of a comprehensive approach to strengthen the three pillars underpinning Vietnam-China relations: political foundations, material cooperation, and social connectivity. Enhanced parliamentary cooperation is seen as instrumental in deepening mutual understanding and coordinating policy responses on shared priorities.

Beyond legislative channels, the two sides are focusing on expanding defence and security cooperation while supporting each other's development goals and international standing. A Commercial Counsellor noted that bilateral trade is growing rapidly with substantive gains, underscoring the economic dimension of the partnership.

The National Assembly President's engagement with Chinese counterparts is expected to yield concrete outcomes across economic, political and cultural spheres. The initiative reflects both nations' commitment to leveraging their historical ties and complementary interests for mutual benefit in the region.
