Vietnam secured its maiden gold medal at the 5th Asian Para Games through its swimming contingent, marking a significant achievement for the country's Para sports program. The gold was won in the men's 100-meter breaststroke SB5 category, with Vietnamese swimmer Hai claiming the top spot.
The strong performance in the pool extended to other Vietnamese competitors, with swimmer Le Tien Dat capturing the silver medal in the same men's 100m breaststroke SB5 event. Officials praised the swimming team's contribution to Vietnam's medal tally at the Games.
Vietnam's success was not limited to swimming. Weightlifter Le Van Cong added a silver medal to the national count on October 19, competing in the men's 49-kilogram category. The performances underscore Vietnam's expanding presence in Para sports competition across multiple disciplines.
The medal achievements come as Vietnam continues to develop its Para athletes program, with medals now spanning swimming, weightlifting, and athletics. Officials highlighted the progress as reflective of growing investment in Para sports development across the nation.
