Vietnam dong reference rate holds steady as trading band remains stable

Vietnam's foreign exchange market began the week with stability as the central bank kept its reference exchange rate unchanged from the previous session. The State Bank's decision to maintain the rate provided certainty for commercial banks and importers navigating currency transactions at a time when regional exchange rates face ongoing pressure.

The ±5% trading band, which governs commercial bank operations, continues to define market parameters. Banks can trade within a ceiling rate of 26,908 VND/USD and a floor rate of 24,346 VND/USD, offering a predictable range for business planning and cross-border transactions.

The stability marked a shift after a period of downward movement in the reference rate. Over the preceding three trading days, the rate had declined incrementally, with a 5 VND drop recorded on October 21, followed by further decreases on October 22 and 23. This week's unchanged opening suggested the central bank may be stabilizing the currency after the recent depreciation cycle.

Market participants closely monitor the reference rate as it serves as a benchmark for interbank transactions and influences pricing across the broader economy. The State Bank's approach to managing the rate reflects its ongoing efforts to balance currency stability with market dynamics in the regional financial landscape.
