Vietnam's free trade agreement with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) is poised to reshape trade dynamics between the Southeast Asian nation and four Western European countries, with implementation targeted for 2027. The agreement is expected to facilitate increased market access for Vietnamese goods while attracting foreign investment and technology transfer to the country.

Business groups have begun advising Vietnamese exporters to undertake comprehensive preparatory work to maximize benefits from the accord. This includes detailed review of tariff schedules applicable under the agreement, understanding product-specific rules of origin, and calculating the costs associated with origin certification procedures.

Companies should also prioritize quality testing and ensure their products meet importers' technical standards and regulatory requirements. Early compliance efforts will position Vietnamese manufacturers and traders to respond swiftly once the agreement enters into force, providing competitive advantages in accessing EFTA member markets.

The EFTA comprises Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, representing significant trading partners with stringent product standards and quality expectations. Vietnamese businesses supplying these markets will need to align their operations with international best practices to succeed commercially.
