Vietnam's trade relationship with the European Free Trade Association has grown substantially, with 2025 figures showing bilateral commerce reaching 4.8 billion euros, equivalent to approximately 5.38 billion US dollars. The data underscores a robust existing foundation upon which both parties can build expanded economic ties.
Vietnamese traders have maintained a competitive position in the EFTA market, recording a trade surplus of 2.5 billion euros in 2025. This favorable balance reflects strong demand for Vietnamese goods within the four-member bloc, which comprises Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.
Observers from multiple EFTA member states have characterized the free trade agreement as a transformative development for bilateral relations. Ambassadors from Norway and Switzerland have signaled their nations' commitment to leveraging the pact to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors once the agreement enters force.
The agreement's anticipated implementation in 2027 provides both sides with time to prepare customs procedures, regulatory alignments, and business strategies. Trade analysts suggest the elimination of tariff barriers will particularly benefit Vietnamese exporters of agricultural products, textiles, and manufactured goods seeking access to the Swiss and Norwegian markets.
