General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President To Lam concluded a state visit to Denmark with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, during which both nations agreed to elevate their relationship to comprehensive strategic partnership status. The upgrade reflects the strengthening of political, economic, and cultural cooperation between the two countries and underscores Vietnam's expanding diplomatic engagement in Europe.
The comprehensive strategic partnership framework represents the highest level of bilateral relations Vietnam maintains with partner nations. It encompasses enhanced cooperation across multiple sectors including trade, investment, climate action, and people-to-people exchanges. The agreement signals Vietnam's commitment to building deeper relationships with European partners and diversifying its international partnerships beyond the Asia-Pacific region.
With Denmark now joining its network of comprehensive strategic partners, Vietnam has established such partnerships with 16 countries as of October 2026. These relationships form a cornerstone of Vietnam's foreign policy strategy, enabling the country to strengthen its position in regional and global affairs while advancing shared interests in development, security, and multilateral cooperation.
