The Vietnamese government has officially established Vietnamese Culture Day through Politburo Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW, signed on January 7, 2026. The annual commemoration on November 24 is designed to honour the nation's traditional cultural heritage while fostering patriotism, national solidarity and collective pride among citizens.
According to the resolution, culture serves as the spiritual foundation, endogenous resource and primary driving force for Vietnam's sustained development. The designation reflects the government's commitment to preserving Vietnamese identity amid rapid modernisation and globalisation.
The inaugural Vietnamese Culture Day will coincide with the National Great Unity Festival, creating a broader platform for cultural celebration. Cultural institutions, including artists and theatres, have been encouraged to participate in marking the occasion, with expectations that the observance will evolve into a recognisable national cultural brand.
The initiative also positions Vietnam's cultural contributions on the regional and international stage. Officials have indicated that the country will use the occasion to promote Vietnamese culture at forums such as the Asia-Pacific Dialogue Conference, strengthening Vietnam's cultural diplomacy efforts across South and Southeast Asia.
