General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam held high-level discussions with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on October 22 in Brussels during an official state visit. The meeting focused on expanding economic cooperation and deepening ties across multiple sectors as both parties seek to broaden their strategic engagement.
During the talks, Vietnam and the European Union discussed measures to enhance trade relations and explore new avenues for commercial partnership. The discussions reflected both sides' recognition of the importance of their bilateral relationship in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.
A significant outcome of the leadership meeting was the signing of a Letter of Intent on Education and Training between Vietnam and the EU. The agreement signals both parties' commitment to strengthening human resources development and academic exchanges, areas seen as critical for long-term cooperation.
The visit represents part of Vietnam's broader diplomatic push to reinforce strategic partnerships with key international actors. EU officials have indicated strong interest in deepening engagement with Vietnam as part of the bloc's efforts to strengthen ties with Southeast Asia and support regional stability.
