The Vietnam Banks Association has highlighted artificial intelligence's potential to strengthen financial crime detection, noting that AI systems can help identify unusual transactions, assess customer creditworthiness more accurately, and anticipate client needs across the sector.

However, association representatives cautioned that deploying AI tools in fraud detection comes with significant challenges. Inconsistent data standardization across banking systems and inadequate controls over algorithmic decision-making could introduce fresh vulnerabilities in both operational processes and personal data safeguards, officials warned.

The pilot program reflects Vietnam's broader efforts to combat financial crime, including initiatives targeting transnational scam networks and technology-enabled trafficking. Officials have emphasized the need for robust oversight mechanisms to ensure that fraud-detection systems operate reliably and maintain compliance with data protection standards.

Banking industry experts stressed that successful implementation will require not only technological innovation but also rigorous validation protocols and inter-institutional coordination to establish uniform data quality standards across financial institutions operating in Vietnam.
