Vietnam extends free domain incentives to boost digital economy access

Vietnam's domain registry has broadened incentives for business-oriented web addresses by extending complimentary registration periods for .id.vn and .biz.vn domain extensions to three years. The extension of fee waivers represents an escalation of efforts to lower barriers to digital market entry across the country's business landscape.

The policy targets key economic constituencies including small and medium-sized enterprises, household businesses, cooperatives and young entrepreneurs. Officials framed the measure as instrumental to narrowing Vietnam's digital divide and fostering broader participation in the country's expanding e-commerce sector.

The initiative builds on earlier momentum in Vietnam's domain ecosystem, including recent premium domain auctions that demonstrated robust demand. A second round of 76 premium .vn domain names is scheduled for auction, following a successful first round in which select domain names fetched prices exceeding 20 times their opening bids.

The extended incentive programme underscores Vietnam's strategic focus on digital infrastructure development as a cornerstone of economic modernization. By reducing financial obstacles to establishing an online presence, policymakers seek to accelerate adoption of digital tools among businesses traditionally underrepresented in Vietnam's online economy.
