Vietnam is moving forward with plans to link its VNeID digital identification application with Singapore's Singpass system and Laos' LAeID platform, marking a significant step toward regional digital interoperability. Officials have set November 15, 2026 as the target date for completing trial connectivity between the systems, according to government announcements.

The cross-border digital ID linkage is designed to simplify immigration procedures and reduce processing times for travelers moving between the three nations. By establishing seamless authentication protocols, the systems would allow citizens to verify their identities across borders without relying on traditional paper documentation, potentially serving as a model for broader ASEAN integration.

The initiative reflects Vietnam's broader strategy to advance digital infrastructure development and strengthen regional cooperation frameworks. Officials have identified personnel training and technical capacity-building as key priorities alongside the technical integration work, with Singapore and Vietnam also expanding collaborative programs in workforce development.

Success of the trial phase could pave the way for expanding the digital ID network to other ASEAN member states, potentially transforming how citizens move and conduct business throughout the region. The linkage project underscores growing momentum within ASEAN toward harmonizing digital governance standards and reducing barriers to intra-regional mobility.
