Vietnam is positioning itself as a regional hub for aviation maintenance, with government officials actively courting major aerospace manufacturers to expand their operations in the Southeast Asian nation. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has extended an invitation to Airbus to consider establishing maintenance and repair centers near Vietnam's major international airports, particularly at Long Thanh and Gia Binh facilities.
The overture reflects Vietnam's broader strategy to attract high-value manufacturing and service sectors as part of efforts to develop new economic value chains. By offering optimal operating conditions, Vietnam aims to leverage its geographic position and growing aviation market to become a preferred destination for international aerospace companies.
The initiative comes as Vietnam and the European Union work to strengthen their economic and trade relationship. High-level dialogues between Vietnamese leadership and European business executives from Belgium and other EU nations underscore mutual interest in expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, from green economy initiatives to advanced manufacturing.
Vietnam's Long Thanh International Airport, currently under development as a major transportation hub south of Ho Chi Minh City, and the existing Gia Binh airport near Hanoi are being positioned as focal points for attracting foreign investment in aviation-related services. Officials believe that establishing Airbus maintenance facilities in Vietnam could generate employment, technology transfer, and strengthen ties within the regional aerospace supply chain.
