Vietnam, Japan bolster ties in advanced technology and higher education

Vietnam and Japan are moving to deepen their partnership in cutting-edge technology sectors through enhanced educational and research initiatives. During a meeting on October 2, Vietnam's Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan discussed with Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Seki Yoshihiro ways to accelerate technological development in both nations.

Minister Vu proposed that Japan expand its postgraduate scholarship programs, particularly at the master's and doctoral levels, with emphasis on strategic technology fields where both countries see significant opportunity. The initiative aims to develop a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation in emerging sectors critical to regional competitiveness.

Beyond scholarships, the two officials discussed facilitating greater exchange of students and researchers between institutions. Such mobility programs are seen as essential for fostering knowledge transfer and building personal networks that strengthen long-term technological cooperation.

The Vietnam Japan University, established as a flagship institution embodying bilateral educational ties, will continue receiving Japanese support under the expanded framework. Both nations view the university as a cornerstone for preparing human resources equipped to tackle shared regional challenges through advanced technology and research.

The discussions reflect Vietnam and Japan's broader commitment to their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, positioning technology and human capital development as key pillars for sustained economic growth and regional stability in Southeast Asia.
