Vietnam, Japan deepen ties on energy and climate cooperation

Vietnam's General Secretary and President Lam met with the Chairman of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) to discuss expanding bilateral development initiatives. During the meeting, Vietnamese leadership urged JBIC to intensify efforts in implementing projects under the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC), a regional framework focused on environmental sustainability and climate action.

The two sides also discussed broadening cooperation within the POWERR Asia initiative, which aims to strengthen energy and resource resilience across the region. Talks centered on potential collaboration in developing strategic energy reserves, reflecting both nations' commitment to energy security and transition toward cleaner sources.

The discussions underscore Vietnam's strategic partnership with Japan in addressing regional development challenges. As Vietnam pursues ambitious climate and economic goals, Japanese financial institutions and development expertise are seen as key partners in supporting infrastructure projects and green energy initiatives.

JBIC, a major source of development finance for Asia-Pacific nations, has supported numerous projects in Vietnam across sectors including infrastructure, energy, and environmental protection. The meeting signals renewed momentum in Japan-Vietnam cooperation as both countries navigate post-pandemic recovery and long-term sustainability challenges.
